These boards are great for teaching phonemic awareness skills to a whole group or, even better, in a small group setting. You can change your focus and use the board many different times with the same child to review or reinforce different phonemic awareness skills such as syllabication, rhyming and beginning and ending sounds. They are fun and grab students' attention with the simple, black lined pictures that students can color to make their own. Make it even more fun by choosing a marking object that correlates with the board's theme (like a candy pumpkin for October or a miniature candy cane for December).
These boards are so versatile! You can differentiate the activities to target the level or skill each student group is working on.
The best part is that you can just check off what skill each child worked on so that parents can follow up on the work at home.
