This packet is full of standards-based writing paper for kindergarten!!
On each page, there are three focus areas for students to work on in their writing. This is a great way to teach young students conventions of writing!!
There is a variety of numbers of lines on the pages to allow students to progress throughout the year and to allow you to easily differentiate in your classroom.
In my classroom, as students finish their writing, they bring it to me. Together, we check the three focus areas. The child shows me "proof" that he/she has met that standard.
We then "check it off". For this feedback, I have drawn a star on the standard, made a checkmark, used star stickers, or even given an M and M or Skittles for each standard met.
There are three different versions: one in which students skip a line to allow for revision/ teacher underwriting, one with blank lines, and one with handwriting lines.
This is a great way to do Type 3 Writing in the Collins Writing Program.
I also have created a set of posters to use in the classroom with these writing papers. I post the focus areas on a bulletin board "What Do Good Writers Do?" and refer to them throughout shared writing, interactive writing, mini-lessons, and individual conferences. Click
here for this set.
I have these writing papers to be very effective in providing feedback for students and in keeping my writing instruction focused. They have also been highly motivating for my students, while also communicating growing expectations!!
Thanks for looking and happy teaching!!
