What a fun way to get familar with landform words.
words included: canyon, hill, valley, plateau, volcano, pond, bay, strait, continent, lake, mountain, desert, river, island, peninsula, delta, ocean
Here is how the center works: Make a copy of the outline (without the words) and laminate it. This is where the students will put the puzzle together. As they put a piece onto the puzzle pattern board, they can say the word aloud to a friend or to you the teacher, or when they get the puzzle completely put together they can read you all of the words on the puzzle.
You will cut the puzzle pieces apart and laminate the pieces with the words. Place them in a baggie. Place the outline board and the baggie of the word pieces in a large ziplock baggie. You will have a very basic center that serves a great purpose.
This makes for a great problem solving/critical thinking center also, as kids are puttlng together a puzzle, which can be a challenge for some. If you wanted to make it a more difficult puzzle, don't let them see the outline board.
This center is perfect for a grab and go center when kids are finished with their work. They can do it quietly without disturbing anyone. It also makes for a great literacy center.
Even if the kids know how to read the words, they would still love to put the puzzle together.
