PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is an eye pleasing PowerPoint that focuses on the vocabulary words and their definitions that are needed to read a map such as: Grid, Latitude, Equator, Parallels, Degrees, Longitude, Prime meridian, Meridians, Hemisphere, Compass Rose, Absolute location, and Legend. It does not go into detail. The definitions are short so they can be understood easily by students.

It includes ideas (now located in the note section as well as the at the end of the PowerPoint because some teachers didn't notice them after they downloaded), on how to connect the vocabulary words to background knowledge as well as reinforce the content using the Multiple Intelligence Theory.

The only vocabulary word that doesn't have an idea about how to help your students remember, is absolute location and that is because in the lesson plan, that is not provided in this download, a full kinesthetic activity is given. This is part of the full "Learning How to Read Maps Lesson Plan" that is not included in this download.
It is included in the BUNDLE that has this PowerPoint and the lesson plan in it. In the lesson plan are 3 leveled versions of a vocabulary note sheet that go along with the PowerPoint, two spatial and kinesthetic activities, 3 practice reading maps worksheets and a paragraph writing assignment for homework. I was disappointed that no activities accompanied the Power Point.
On  October 9, 2013Kasha Mastrodomenico answered:
You are the second person to be disappointed by this so I changed where the ideas to connect to background knowledge (extremely short activities) are found. I have kept them in the note section (you can still see them in the Notes Page view) and I have copied and pasted them to slides at the end of the PowerPoint. Now I know that teachers won't miss them. You can download the updated version now. You should see the notification soon. Thank you for your purchase and I hope you like the changes.

I could have made this ppt in 15 minutes while multi-tasking. I don't get it.
On  January 11, 2013Kasha Mastrodomenico answered:
The PowerPoint itself focuses on vocabulary which is what is stated in the overview. The creative part of the PowerPoint is in how to help your students learn what each vocabulary word and definition is. This is in the note sections that the students don't see. There are a lot of different short multiple intelligence activities for the slides. That is the part that took me much longer than 15 minutes to create.
