Leo Lionni is known for his imaginative stories with delightful characters which leave children with empowering life lessons. Leo Lionni's books are great for teaching children fables and finding themes or morals in fables. This author study will explore six of Leo Lionni's acclaimed books. The author study includes a table of contents, a summary of the plot and theme for each book, teacher directions for reading each book, teacher directions for each
activity, integrated activities for science and math, and posters to accompany each book, and writing activities. Several Common Core standards are included such as recounting fables and their themes or morals; character point of view; problem and solution; beginning, middle, and end; characters, setting, and plot; making connections; and responding to literature. There are activities for each book as well as an ongoing activity throughout the author study. Author studies truly allow students to take reading to a higher level as they gain a deeper comprehension for the stories and characters.
