Build a budget, build a tower by Kathy Applebee
Students make a budget to buy materials (clay and dry spaghetti) to build a tower. For younger students making a connection between real life and "math on paper" can be difficult or fuzzy. Building the tower is fun and students eagerly budget in order to get it "right".
.PDF files in a ZIP folder. Connections to Bible text can be difficult and fuzzy as well. This activity will lead to a richer, more full understanding of Luke 14:25-33.
Lesson plan includes goals, objectives, standards addressed, materials needed, introduction, activities, conclusion, a list of resources including internet resources, extensions, rubric and assessment.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Besides the traditional classroom I have taught in the prison system, residential mental health facilities and in theaters across the country. Currently I work in alternative education at John F. Kennedy Middle School in Suffolk, Virginia. I teach English and science for grades 4-8.
