Sweet Little Lillie and her little purple plastic purse! I just love this precious story by Kevin Henkes.
Here is what is included in this mini unit.
{1} 8 comprehension story cards and a recording sheet. I will use these cards in small group as an independent activity that my first graders will do after we have completed reading the story. They ask basic comprehension questions that students will know once they read the book. Multiple copies of the book will also be available for students to use if they need help answering a question.
{2} 25 Vocabulary Flash Cards: This story uses some BIG words which will be great for vocabulary practice. For example: privacy, artistic, furious, and pupils. We will use this in a pocket chart and review them daily to gain an understanding of new words!
{3} 5 Vocabulary Phrases: "sharp as a tack" or "disturb a soul" are 2 examples. Another great vocabulary lesson using examples from the book.
{4} 10 ABC order Cards. Students can arrange the cards in order then record the words in ABC order on the recording sheet that is included. The 10 words are words from the book. A few examples are: teacher, desk and purse. A great independent activity!
{5} 12 True/False Statements from the story. Students will read the sentences and decide if it is true or false. I will use these in a pocket chart and there are header cards included that say true and false. So, if a sentence is true- students will place that card under the true header. After the cards are sorted there is a recording sheet available with the same statements. The students will circle true or false beside each sentence. Excellent small group or independent activity. All 12 sentences are from the book.
{6} Noun, Verb & Adjective Sort: There are 18 word cards and 3 header cards. Students will sort the words from the story under the correct header. A recording sheet is also available for this activity. The 18 words are words from the story. A great pocket chart activity that will work as a language review.
{7} Word Search: Students can find 10 words from the story in the word search. A great "early finisher" activity for the other activities.
