This is an at home project I had my Algebra 1 students do after they learned how to write the equation of a line in slope intercept (y-mx+b) form given two points on the line. This project involves the students choosing a national flag to graph on a coordinate plane. A complete scoring tool is provided that gives the students specific details on how the project will be graded.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Subject Area:

I have 18 years of teaching experience, 4 years in elementary 14 in middle school. After 6 years of teaching Algebra 1 GATE and pre-algebra, I took on a new position as a math intervention specialist helping struggling math students, preparing lessons for teachers, and team-teaching with classroom math teachers. This year, I am also teaching an algebra 1 part 2 class. I truly believe in the necessity of teaching the "why" of mathematics. My favorite moments are the "Oh, now I get it!" ones.
