Students will enjoy having Barbie bungee jump off the staircase! This in-class project allows students to apply their knowledge of graphing, measuring, scatter plots, and linear regressions to calculate how many rubber bands it will take for Barbie to make a safe bungee jump off the staircase (or bleachers, out window, etc). Students will gather data, make predictions, and test predictions. Ti-83 calculator intsructions are also included for students to calculate linear regressions. My students have always loved this activity! Don't have Barbies on hand? Off extra credit to students to bring in Barbies, GI Joes, action figures, etc! This is also a great 'authentic' assessment for students instead of giving out a traditional pencil-and-paper quiz.
