There are so many ways to use these 64 Reading Response Cards! Here are some suggestions:

-Use as writing prompts for reading journals.
-Require students to complete a certain number of cards each week for their independent reading.
-Use in guided reading groups and literature circles as discussion prompts.
-Use as prompts for partner discussions.
-Use reading strategy and literacy centers.
-Choose one card to display on the document camera for the whole class to use as a writing prompt.
-Allow students to draw cards randomly as writing or discussion prompts (always very popular!)
-Use after silent reading or the weekend to discuss what students have been reading independently.

Common Core Standards addressed in this product are written out by grade level grades 3-8 for easy reference. In addition, the questions are also in list format at the end of the document.

To use, simply print and cut along the guidelines. Laminate and use them again and again! Although they will look best in color, these cards will also print out fine in grayscale.

Hi , I see some others have mentioned the small typo on card #3. So, I am just letting you know that it is still there. It also shows up on the list format of the questions. Overall, it is a very good product.

I just purchased your task cards for "Lit Sparks" reading task cards for any book and I noticed that on card number 3 there is a small error. The word "and" should be "an". I love your work! Thanks for all you do!

Is there a difference between your "Lit Bit" Task Cards and your "Lit Sparks" Task cards? The only difference I am noticing is the amount of questions, and would love to buy one of the sets for my reading class that I teach, but am confused on the difference. Thanks!!

Hi Mindy,

Actually, they are quite different. Lit Bits are more involved and activity based - things like make a Venn Diagram using yourself and the main character or create a word search with words from the book. Lit Sparks are all questions such as: Would the main character make a good friend, why or why not? So Lit Sparks would work well in discussions as well as for writing.

If you look at the previews, you can see examples of each type of card, so hopefully that will help.

Hi,
I purchased the literature response question cards for any book but I can't get it to open. It keeps saying there is an error with this product that can't be fixed. Any ideas? Thank you.

Would these be good for GT 6th graders?

I think so...the questions are open-ended and most of them require some kind of critical thinking. Seems like your students could really dig deeply into them and have some terrific discussions rather than just answering with a sentence or two.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Most of my teaching experience is with gifted and talented students in grades 2-4, though I have worked with children of all ages in general education classrooms as well. A few years ago I stopped teaching in order to write nonfiction children's books full time. Gradually over the last couple of years, my career has switched from writing to creating teaching materials here on Teacher Pay Teacher. I love creating teaching products (most recently task cards) and feel just as passionate about my work now as I did when I was teaching. I also love knowing that my products help thousands of teachers and reach tens of thousands of students.
