In this pre-made mock trial, the poor people of the United States of America allege that the federal government has not done its job in providing for the general welfare. At issue in the case is a discussion over minimum wage versus living wage and the right for access to affordable health care. This fact pattern includes four witnesses (with pre-made witness statements), 3 exhibits, definitions, a grading rubric, and a list of 10 common trial objections. Students will enjoy a lively debate over whether or not anyone can live on the current minimum wage, and if universal health care is a desirable policy. --John Oneill
