I have found that many older students (even in 3rd and 4th grade) do not know their vowel patterns. This prohibits their success in spelling. Using this vowel dominoes game students learn and review the different vowel patterns that make the long e sound. Students are asked to match up words that share the same long e vowel patter. For example, a student can matched key with monkey because they both share the ey vowel pattern. Another student can matched read with wheat because they share the ea vowel pattern. Students record their matches on a recording sheet.
