This unit is a 21 page package of resources for a comparison unit that focuses on the texts, The Lord of the Flies (novel by William Golding) and Mean Girls (2004 Film by director Mark Waters). The unit includes reading comprehension and higher level thinking skill activities (setting, characterization, symbolism, theme) for the study of the novel, as well as a handout to accompany the viewing of the film. There is also a comparison chart for students to work on comparing the two texts, as well as a quiz and a essay assignment. Answer sheets are not included in the resource, however assessment rubrics are for the quiz and essay. This is a great unit for academically focused secondary school students.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Subject Area:
I have been a classroom teacher at a small, rural high school in Ontario, Canada for the past 8 years. For the past 4 of those years, I have been the department head of English/Literacy. My teaching practice has included grades 9-12, in the Academic (University prep), Applied(College prep) and Local (Workplace prep) streams. I have mainly taught English courses, however have also occasionally taught History, Civics, Art and Government.
