This is a 16 plan for the novel "Loser" by Jerry Spinelli to be used in guided reading groups or with an entire class. The plan includes specific directions for developing reading strategies, writing response logs, and appreciation of author's craft. At the end of the plan is a graphic organizer to keep track of student ideas, and small teaching posters on vocabulary strategies, question types, connections, and a word web example. All you need to begin are copies of the novel, some sticky notes, and some paper. Clear summaries of all student readings will make it easy for you to lead your group.
