This reading guide for Lost Lake by Allen Say follows a guided reading format. The Preview and Predict section contains thought provoking questions and encourages students to utilize the text's features to make predictions. Students further prepare to read in the Set Your Purposes section where they generate questions they think will be answered in the text. The Think As You Read section is in the form of a table and tells the student what page to read up to before answering each question. The entire framework works well in all instructional formats, from small group guided reading, to independent reading, to a Literacy Center. The post-reading section contains questions based on broader comprehension of text and an Artist's Corner that reinforces thinking beyond the text. This guide contains no page numbers, so that it is not dependent upon a particular edition of the book. This allows the teacher to fill in the correct page numbers, so that the guide will go along with whatever edition is available. There is a version of this reading guide available on TpT that does contain page numbers and works with the MacMillan Anthology whose cover is purple and has a train on it.
