Do your kids love books? They'l love choosing a favorite book to share with their classmates with this project. They might choose a treasured book read to them when they were young or a book they read on their own just a few weeks ago. The students complete activity pages about this book. The heart-shape pages include activities for both fiction and nonfiction books. Choose as many activity pages as your schedule allows. The best way to bind the pages into a book is at the top of the heart. You can staple the booklet together or punch holes and use yarn to tie the pages together.
I've used this project at the beginning of the school year so kids can share their favorite books, and at the end of literature units. It also goes well Valentine's Day.

I've used this project throughout the year, but always love to tie it in with Valentine's Day. It's a nice way to keep your students learning every day of the school year.

A classroom is a magical place. Engaging, young students enter, ready to learn and mature, confident students leave, more ready to take on the world. My classroom has always been my home away from home. It's important to make a classroom a warm and inviting place for the students and teacher. After all, such a large part of your day and your year is spent within those four walls! I love watching those "light bulbs" go on as students grasp the big idea of the lessons I've planned. The challenge is planning lessons and units that are engaging and academically sound I love that challenge! Through my carreer I've seen many changes, but none as great as the transition to the new Common Core State Standards. My goal is to use my experiences to create engaging, meaningful, and academic based units and materials for classroom teachers. My 30+ years of teaching have included 1st grade, Special Education-Resource program (K-8), 4th grade and my true love- 3rd grade.
