MLA Parenthetical & Works Cited Cheat Sheet for Students
UPDATED to include 2009 7th edition changes and added two pages of helpful record sheets for students to document their sources while they perform research (from my MLA Works Cited Sources for Students resource).
This handout for students simplifies the hardest part for students: documenting their sources. This is the PDF version - it is also offered in a Word .doc HERE. Note: I recently updated this to include the .doc version, as well.
COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS require students to cite their sources. This is a valuable aid for CCSS alignment. I require MLA documentation, so the focus of this handout is solely MLA. It breaks down the parenthetical & works cited process using three examples: one from a book, one from a periodical, and one from an internet source. It is in clear, easy to follow steps, with a visual example of each step.

Sorry you are unhappy with the resource. However, there is an example for the most commonly used sources by students. For a two-page resource, it packs quite a bit. Copied on both sides, students are left with one page for easy access. They can put it in their binders and refer to it when needed. If you are looking for a manual for MLA documentation, I recommend purchasing a book. But it will cost you a lot more and most of it will probably go unused.

I've been teaching at my current public high school for twelve years, and have a total of 16 years experience. Most of my experience is teaching high school English and journalism classes; however, for several years I taught an art history class.
