This is a great way to meet your social studies core while celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and/or Black History Month (February). This cute and creative resource pack will give you many printables and graphic organizers to help you teach about Martin Luther King, Jr. and Civil Rights in America.

Here is what you'll receive by purchasing this pack:

-Resource List - A resource list to websites, online resources, and literature recommendations.
-Art Project - A bulletin board display. Students draw portraits of Martin Luther King, Jr.
-Biography Graphic Organizer - Graphic Organizer for the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. Students fill out as you read a biography book about his life.
-Timeline of Martin Luther King, Jr. - Students use their graphic organizer to put 7-10 life events in order on the timeline.
-“I Have A Dream Speech” activity – Fill in the Blank activity. Read the speech while students follow along. See if they can guess which word fits in each blank.
-“I Have A Dream” question sheet – 4 thoughtful questions to help students analyze Dr. King’s speech.
-Bulletin Board ‘I Have A Dream’ student speeches -Students think about the world they want to leave behind and write their own speech about the future of America.
-4 writing prompts – Four different writing prompts are provided. You can let students choose which one to write about or use it as a fast finisher. All 4 questions are thought-provoking and come on a decorated piece of paper.
-Civil Rights vocabulary graphic organizer -Students learn nine words that will help them understand about Civil Rights better.
-Civil Rights leaders graphic organizer – Students learn about 9 influential leaders of the Civil Rights movement.
-Civil Rights leaders memory game – A fun way for students to practice and remember the accomplishments of some of our country’s Civil Rights leaders.
-Martin Luther King, Jr ‘Thinks/Says/Loves/Feels’ assessment – Can be used as a unit review or end of unit assessment to see what students have learned about MLK.
-Answer Guides – Some answer guides have been provided. If an answer guide is not present, it is because the information should be easily found by reading a biography to your students or through simple online research.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Grades Taught:

This is my seventh year of teaching. I have attended many professional development classes including 3 years in an American history teacher's program, I have received my technology endorsement, and I have been a presenter at my district's summer literacy institute twice. Blogging is my hobby and you can find me at www.whattheteacherwants.blogspot.com, I love creating resources for other teachers to use. I have been a seller on TPT for one year and have loved the new challenge that it brings.
