This group activity helps students to understand how widely interpretations of Shakespeare can vary. I put the students into different groups, then give them all this handout with instructions. In addition to describing Duncan's characterization, they must questions such as how old the king should be and what he should wear. We then compare the different groups' views of Duncan.
I often follow this activity by showing two very different Duncans in different film versions.

The 2008-2009 school year is my fourth year at the Bath Central School District and the third year in which I've had the honor of preparing my district's juniors for the NYS Regents Exam.
