I felt like this was a great packet. I am using this for fifth grade. The standards are pretty specific and it covers parts of it but not the whole thing. I used parts but still had to create other parts to keep everything aligned to the fifth grade but that is bound to happen since it was made for third grade, other than that, It was good.

Since, the common core standards are not published yet for Science, I am not sure which standards you are referring to. I teach third grade in Georgia, and this unit is fully alligned with our standards. Although this unit is fully alligned with our 3rd grade standards, it is a unit that would be appropriate for 2nd through 5th. I am glad you liked it and could use parts of it for your 5th graders. Since this unit provides you with visuals and step-by-step instructions for creating an electromagnet, that should help your students make the comparison once you teach them about permanent magnets. Then they will be able to compare the two using a simple Venn diagram or a double-bubble thinking map. I hope this helps.
