This mini lesson consists of identifying the main idea of a text. The model text is Desert Giant the World of the Saguaro Cactus by Barbara Bash. Others anchor texts may be substituted. The lesson plan is differentiated and can be used with three small groups made up of homogeneous reading levels. There is a guided practice sheet to use while modeling on the rug and there is also an independent practice sheet to use as your final assessment.
