TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have 27 years of classroom experience in four different socio-economic school districts. Most of those years were spent in 5th and 6th grade as a language arts teacher. I was a reading specialist for two years, but found I missed the excitement and variety of the classroom.>>>I've encountered every type of reader or nonreader there is. Their reading habits are unique! Thanks to them my teaching style reflects many ideas, devices, and programs that appeal to students. When possible, I have taken corporate America seriously and tried to incorporate activities which allow students to work together to achieve a goal.>>>I was teaching in a large school district when the school superintendent and a school board member came into my room during class. Fortunately they came to give me an award as an Educator Achieving Excellence. I received an eloquent speech, a fine plaque, and a write-up with my picture in the local paper. It felt good to be acknowledged. My students were excited for me too. I had a supportive staff congratulate me. It was a day I treasure.>>>Since my retirement I have created a company called KABOB, Language Arts, Inc. KABOB stands for Keep A Book OnBoard. That's what I called my independent reading program. It allowed my students to have greater success becoming strong, confident, avid, happy readers.>>>My KABOB Independent Reading Program is now on TpT. I have divided it into several parts allowing the customer to choose the parts that are of interest to them. Also on TpT you will find 222 novel quizzes I used with KABOB. They are simple quizzes for the students to prove to you that they read the book. I attempted to create questions covering as many levels of comprehension as possible. I've decided to put my Tour de Poetry Unit on TpT also. My students had lots of fun creating poetry using this unit. Just type KABOB is the search box.
