Main Idea can be tricky for some kids! I used these sheets for morning work and had my kids confident about knowing what the main idea of a story was.
***Common Core Standards***
RI.K.2. With prompting and support, identify the main topic and retell key details of a text.
RI.1.2. Identify the main topic and retell key details of a text.
Students will read a short passage and should highlight or underline any supporting details.
There are 10 different stories and there are two worksheets for each story. One is multiple choice and the other is free response.
I gave my students the multiple choice worksheets first and then after they were confident about finding the main idea themselves, I gave them the free response sheets. They read the passage on their own and wrote down what they thought the main idea was.
This download also includes worksheets that tell the students 3 supporting details and the students must determine the main idea.
Includes 3 main idea and details graphic organizers for stories.

I LOVE this pack! The passages are perfect in difficulty and length for practicing Main Idea and supporting details with my first graders. They love the content of the passages as well...especially the ones about cats being horrible!!! They laughed and laughed...thank you!!!

I am a Kindergarten teacher from Orlando, Florida. *Update* I am teaching Advanced 2nd grade for the 2012-2013 school year. I love using technology and fun activities to enhance my teaching. I attended the University of Central Flordia and majored in Elementary Education. I was appointed team leader my second year teaching and pride myself on being a dedicated passionate teacher. I tutor 1st grade students after school, interned in 2nd grade while obtaining my degree and also work with 3rd and 4th grade students on Saturday morning, prepping for FCAT. Before teaching I was a nanny for two different families for 3 years. I love working with children and I love teaching so much. I feel it's what God called me to do.
