This is a Pre-K Literacy/Science lesson. It involves science and literacy because of what is done in the activity. One of the things the children learn to do, is to learn to "read" labeled objects. The objects they "read" are so familar to them that they are able to "read" the labels. This encourages their interest in learning to read. The activity is so much fun for the children. They often ask to do it over and over again.
