Masters of Disaster by Gary Paulsen Text Messaging Comprehension Activity
Common Core Reading Standards: 2, 3, 5, and 6
This is a reading comprehension activity that will work with any novel but is set up for this specific one. This activity will have your students send "text" messages to the author, a character in the story, a friend about a favorite part, and a teacher about what he/she liked about the story. We have found this to be a very enjoyable activity that encourages comprehension of the story in a unique way.
Masters of Disasters is a story of adventure. Would you ride Old Willard, wrestle with an elephant, or dare ride a bike off a neighbor's roof hoping to bounce off of a diving board? These are just a few of the adventures that young Reed, Henry, and Riley take on to try to become noteworthy and famous (and to attract the girls, too). So join in on the fun and enjoy the adventure with this exciting novel!
Included in the packet is a template cell phone for each activity, along with over 30 text abbreviations for the students to use (but we are sure that your students will know many, many more!).
