Seller's Description
This is an in-class project that can be done after reading Jon Scieszka's beautifully illustrated book MATH CURSE. Illustrations are done by Lane Smith.
I used this lesson on a day I had a sub coming in. I first read MATH CURSE to my class and then explained the project, then the next day while I was out the students completed the pages. Most of my students finished their page in the 70 minute block, but a few had to finish at home. After the whole team finished, I had each class create an "author" page, and we voted to see what our cover page should be. (Various students created front covers, which was optional, but in addition to the assignment.) I put all of the students' pages (107 total!) together, laminated, in one large book. We did this project at the beginning of 7th grade, and at the end of my 8th grade loop (with the same students) I pulled out the book and read it to them. The students just loved flipping through all the pages!
Feel free to print out the examples I included with this lesson to show your students. I blocked out all of my students' names. They tried to write and illustrate in the same style as Scieszka and Smith.
