It's time for March Madness and St. Patrick's Day, so I made this mystery a moosh of both...but it is a basic mystery that can be read at any time!
I also added a little more fun...Instead of just having a big book for your kids to share, I included a small book that you can cut and staple so each student can have their own mystery! Great way to save on printer ink, or print in black and white!
This math mystery is a fun way for 2nd graders to practice doing a variety of word problems in a unique way. Kids just start reading at the beginning of the book, solve the problems, and go where the book tells them to go! If they get the wrong answer, they will have a 'stopper' that will tell them to go back to where they were working, and TRY AGAIN!
This mystery includes these skills:
*subtraction with basic regrouping
*Time to the nearest 5 minutes
*finding area with squares
*fractions
*subtraction facts
*Recognize that equal shares of identical wholes do not have to have the
same shape.
*graphing and comparing data
*elapsed time
*adding money
*estimating as to whether you have enough money
There are a total of 10 word problems included in this story. Some of them are multi-step problems as well.
I use these mysteries at my math stations during guided math. I am sure your kids will love this March Madness themed math mystery book as much as mine do! What the next mystery will bring?

It is just a pdf so the kids can just flip through the pages just like they would a real book. Most of the mysteries have about 10 problems, so they take awhile...just depends on the child. I usually have kids work as partners. I also send the small version home as homework and the kids have to have it signed so I know that they did it. You can do it a lot of different ways. Hope this helps you out!

This might be silly so if you don't have time to do this that's fine. I purchased all of your 2nd grade math mysteries, and I noticed that it doesn't have a page telling what skills are covered in each math mystery packet. I was wondering if you could add a page telling the skills covered in each particular math mystery so that I have all that information in one document. Seriously, I understand if you don't have time to do this. Thanks for making these wonderful documents! I can't wait to use it next year!

I have been teaching for 25 years. I have taught kindergarten and 1st grade...then began to loop with 2nd and 3rd graders. I absolutely loved looping! It was so exciting to watch the growth in those little buggers over a two year period....and talk about getting attached! Those little people, their families and I became very close. We stopped looping a few years ago when we changed principals. I'm trying to talk my new principal into letting me team teach with a friend....we just want to knock out one of the walls!
