This math mystery is a fun way for 3rd graders to practice doing a variety of word problems in a unique way. Kids just start reading at the beginning of the book, solve the problems, and go where the book tells them to go! If they get the wrong answer, they will have a 'stopper' that will tell them to go back to where they were working, and TRY AGAIN!
This mystery includes these skills:
*Elapsed time
*using parentheses to solve multi-step problems
*Perimeter
*Choosing the correct unit of measure
*Sharing money
*division
*names for a square
*equivalent fractions
*multiplication/division with units of 10
There are a total of 10 word problems included in this story. Some of them are multi-step problems as well.
I use these mysteries at my math stations during guided math. I am sure your kids will love this Spring themed math mystery book as much as mine do! What the next mystery will bring?

Hi Hilary! Really enjoy your materials for my classroom. What do you use to create them? Word, Publisher or something else? I have been teaching for 17 years and would like to create some novel studies for chapter books for 3-4 grade. I would really appreciate your reply, I don't know where best to start and your resources are very nice looking, kid and teacher friendly.

I use Publisher for my stuff. Some people use powerpoint and a lot of people use macs. Publisher is easy to manipulate. :) Hope this helps!

I have been teaching for 25 years. I have taught kindergarten and 1st grade...then began to loop with 2nd and 3rd graders. I absolutely loved looping! It was so exciting to watch the growth in those little buggers over a two year period....and talk about getting attached! Those little people, their families and I became very close. We stopped looping a few years ago when we changed principals. I'm trying to talk my new principal into letting me team teach with a friend....we just want to knock out one of the walls!
