Nothing gets kids more excited about science than doing science experiments. This set of 4 mini-labs includes experiments that are fun, engaging, and thought provoking. These experiments will reinforce the concepts you have taught in class as well as develop good critical thinking and problem solving skills.
This is a set of 4 mini-labs that I use when teaching my unit on Matter and Change. These can easily be completed in 2 class periods. Each mini-lab is a stand-alone activity, so you can choose to do all of them or just a few of them.
Purpose of the labs:
1. To determine the density of pennies minted before 1982 and after 1982.
2. To use paper chromatography as a method of separating the components of a mixture.
3. To determine if a strange substance is a solid or a liquid.
4. To observe several chemical changes.
Please Note: This product is included in a bundled unit plan of 11 products on Matter and Change. You can view the entire unit by Clicking here: Matter and Change Unit Bundle
Your download will contain 5 pages of handouts that are ready to be copied and passed out to your students. Included in the student handouts: Title, purpose, safety precautions, procedure, data tables, and analysis questions.
You will also receive a 7-page document for the teacher. This includes complete materials list, instructions for preparing solutions, suggestions for making the lab run smoothly, and answers to all questions.
You will receive both a Word document as well as a pdf of the worksheets.
