In level one there are 33 base words to build from and 150 words altogether.
Children are provided with one base word like some they then have to (individuals, pairs or small group), sort and collect all the words that can be made from some, they will find words like sometimes, somebody, somewhere etc.
Each base word has a caterpillar picture and is in red writing.
Each variation has a butterfly picture, this represents the metamorphosis that words can take on, just like a caterpillar to a butterfly which most children are familiar with.
In teaching spelling, one of the most important skills that children learn is metamorphic, knowledge. This is a crucial skill that all children must learn and is especially important in the early years.
This game is fun and can also be used in different ways.
Not only can students group each set of words, they could also:
Put words for each set in alphabetical order.
Students could look up each word in the dictionary.
Add to the collection through research such as a dictionary.
They could choose one set a make sentence for each and describe the differences is meaning.
Find synonyms for a set or sets of words.
Find antonyms for a set or sets of words.
Organize sets into even numbers and play concentration with cards up or down, make pairs of words with same base word.
Or teachers can integrate into spelling list.
Great for a literacy group experiences, after it has been modeled to the whole class.
We will be posting Metamorphosis Level 2 and Level 3 soon.
Oh, wow, thank you so much for your feedback. I got the idea from the fact that our spelling words had to cover morphemic words! I am so delighted that you love them and also for your feedback. Your analogy of Clever is also very... clever!!! Thanks so much for shopping with us. :)
