This class management system was developed for American seventh grade students, but I have also used it with success for American sixth graders and in China with first through seventh graders who spoke no English. This system has proven to be effective with even my toughest behavior challenges. It's simple to use and requires only paper and pencil.

I agree that this sounds so simple and very workable. I think it will be especially effective with my last period class. Thanks!

Can't wait to try this SIMPLE method with my 6th graders. There is nothing better to them than being the first out of the room!!!

I really like that this is based on class period timing as it allows each side a chance to win often. I can also see this working with table groups, and over a longer time period and with the whole class (everyone is ready/everyone isn't) with a goal number of stars to win a bigger prize.

Great ideas! The whole-class method worked especially well for me in the last week before a school break with the prize being a class party (that the kids planned and provided for), a subject-based game, a movie based on a story we read, or a field trip. If they didn't reach their goal, we would do round robin writing or act out a short story on the last day of classes before the break. Still fun, but not as much fun as the prize.

Wow! This is such a simple method of classroom management and yet I've never thought of anything quite like it. I teach middle school music, and while I feel that I have a pretty great handle on my general music classes, middle school chorus is a totally different monster. I've had a hard time coming up with a classroom management plan that will both encourage students and keep a positive energy going and also nip negative student behaviors in the bud, all without sucking up precious and few minutes of rehearsal time. I think this might be it. I believe that even the 8th graders will get into this in my case. Chorus is the end of the day and they're always itching to get out as soon as the bell rings so they can get to their lockers and get to their bus or ride in time. I think that this is exactly what I was looking for! I wish I had only found it two years ago. Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful resource, Debra!!

You are so welcome! I'm happy to see that so many teachers are planning to try this because it was such a life-saver for me. It allowed me to actually teach again!
