Want to encourage CRITICAL THINKING? Supervisors LOVE this! Here are 7 pages of mistakes that actual students have made in solving math problems. After going into many math classrooms and seeing the same mistakes pop up, I created these Misconceptions documents for the teachers to use so that students can analyze the errors. Students identify mistakes and correctly complete the problems.
Some topics include: solving one and two step equations, plotting numbers on a number line, coordinate plane, renaming fractions as decimals, operations with integers, distributive property, and operations with fractions.

Hi Laura,
Ha ha...I think I might need to take the advice I give to my students...read carefully! I just saw the word "and" in the problem (even though you put it in bold letters). I apparently just skimmed over it. Thanks for taking the time to correct me graciously.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have 18 years of teaching experience, 4 years in elementary 14 in middle school. After 6 years of teaching Algebra 1 GATE and pre-algebra, I took on a new position as a math intervention specialist helping struggling math students, preparing lessons for teachers, and team-teaching with classroom math teachers. This year, I am also teaching an algebra 1 part 2 class. I truly believe in the necessity of teaching the "why" of mathematics. My favorite moments are the "Oh, now I get it!" ones.
