Mini Reading Warmups - USA - Grade 5

Mini Reading Warmups - USA - Grade 5 focuses on reading objectives in isolation. Practice pages provide short passage excerpts followed by questions written for a specific reading objective. The reading objectives covered are listed at the end of the Download Preview.

Mini Reading Warmups - USA - Grade 5 will help students and teachers target areas of reading objectives that need additional emphasis. Practice of each objective consists of four exercises. The first exercise is a transparency that can be used to instruct a whole class or a small group about the reading objective. It may provide a model for teachers to demonstrate a skill. The first exercise consists of a short passage followed by two questions. The remaining three practice exercises include two short passages followed by two questions each. These can be used as guided practice or individual practice to work toward mastery of the objective. An answer key for each set of exercises is provided. Also included in this series is a list of reading objectives tested and a bibliography.

I noticed everything is aligned with the TAKS objectives. Do you have a set that are aligned with the TEKS for STAAR assessment? Some of the TEKS have changed. I'm using this as review for my students for the upcoming test.

Hi. Thank you for your question. I do not have a set that is aligned with the TEKS for STAAR for TeachersPayTeachers. If you go to my website (www.readingwarmupsandmore.com), you can look for Focus on the STAAR - Reading. You can download samples of the grade 5 product and see how you like it. Thanks.

Sincerely,
Mark

Not specifically. I am from Texas and the mini reading warmups are based on the TAKS objectives, the state mandated assessment that has now become the STAAR (State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness).

How many pages is this resource? What objectives does it cover? I really like the preview.

Hi, Lisa. There are 187 pages. It covers vocabulary development such as using the context, interpreting figurative language, and multiple-meaning words; affixes; determining main idea; details; summary; analyzing characters; recognizing and analyzing story plot, setting, and problem resolution; cause and effect; recalling information; finding similarities and differences across texts; representing text information through graphic organizers; judging the consistency or logic of texts; identifying the purposes of texts; comparing texts; describing an author's point of view; drawing inferences and drawing conclusions; distinguishing fact and opinion; support responses with text; and recognizing the way authors organize information. Please let me know if I can be of any additional help. Thank you.
