PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Do you hate to teach economics? Do you need a way to engage students in economic concepts that they see as fun? Well, here's the game for you! I have presented this at multiple schools and conferences around the state of SC and have gotten excellent feedback. By taking on the identity of a "fake" country and determining how they will help their country survive, student groups interact with other groups in trading, buying, and selling products. But watch out...the teacher acts as "natural disasters," "war," or limiting economic policies to restrict the trade process! By the end of the game, the students will literally be able to SEE the impact that countries have on each other and how interdependence exists in our world.

Included in this zip file are the game description and rules, resources (some copying and cutting out will be involved on your part!), and a few short video clips showing the game in action so that YOU will know what it looks like!

Special thanks to TPT User Joseph Jones for his constructive feedback and resource sharing! :-)

I did this with my 7th graders on Thursday. I was so thrilled at how well this went. They loved it and I loved watching them! We laughed a lot and my room was controlled chaos! Next year, I will have all my stuff laminated so I can do this activity again and again! Thank you so much!

On  January 24, 2014,  CP M. asked:
Can this be done more than once? Such as giving each group a different country each time?
Teachers Pay Teachers
On  January 24, 2014Kimberly Cauble answered:
Absolutely! Each time you do it, things will be different!
On  June 25, 2009Meryl van der Merwe (TpT Seller) asked:
How long does this game take and is it different to the trading game where countries have to make and sell paper shapes?
Teachers Pay Teachers
On  June 27, 2009Kimberly Cauble answered:
Hi! Sorry it took me a long time to get back with you...I was out of town and just checked my email! This game will take as long as you need it to, 20 minutes or 2 hours! You can make it fit whatever your goals are. I am not sure about the game you mentioned...the students in my game aren't actually producing anything, they are just trading the items you assign them based on their country's description.
