Mockingbird by K. Erskine: Novel Discussion Guide for Teachers
Literature Discussion/Comprehension Guide contains:
-Over 160 questions over chapters 1-39. Answers follow each page of chapter questions. Question/Answers make up the first 41 pages of the 51 pages of content in this resource! (Title, section, and closing pages not counted)
-Noted literary elements for discussion, including:
Idiom, allusion, personification, simile, metaphor, symbolism---page numbers of sample element examples noted at least once (list of idioms and allusions)

1. Idioms Handout--respond to the idiom by interpreting the meaning (handout is great to use with any story or novel---2 for 1!)

--Connections: Suggestions page included for teacher for further reading/incorporating informative texts with novel --suggestions contain several links to articles and how to incorporate them into lessons with novel
--Writing Prompt Recording Sheet for Teachers to record valuable prompts/potential writing activities that arise during disucssions

--An additional list of 20 selected terms has been included that you can use (should you choose) with chapter number and page number for the term . PLEASE NOTE: The vocabulary chart is only the chart of terms, w/ pages numbers! It does not contain anything more than this. I've created a separate VOCABULARY resource to go with this novel. I added Mockingbird as a Book Club choice for my 6th graders at the last minute, and I barely had time to read it first, let alone plan for it. This was a real time-saver! Great questions and activities.

Most of my career spent in 7th - 8th grade English Language Arts; I've been in middle school for 8+ years. Taught 1 year each in K, 2nd, 5th Each has it's perks. I apparently enjoy the upper grades since I quickly moved up levels. I'm completing my 12th year with the end of this school year 2012-13...
