This is from a team- taught middle school history/ English class. The assignment comes after the conversation on page 71 in which Lobel states that the reason he talks about movies all the time is because they are “the only real thing in life” . After a discussion of this statement, I assign this project in which they must cast the book for an upcoming movie. The handout has a chart to just if their selection of actors and a rubric for the movie poster they must create when they are done. I use use this as a fun activity to break up the days of reading, and to lead to a conversation about characterization. IT IS NOT MEANT TO BE A UNIT ASSESSMENT. There is not enough depth to the assignment.
