Mr. Popper's Penguins by Richard and Florence Atwater is a classic of children's literature. First published in 1938, some of its references and languages can seem a little dated. Its plot, however, is timeless, and its penguin-friendly emphasis on the exploration and preservation of Antarctica lends it a modern day relevance.

I taught for a total of 32 years, mostly in second grade. After getting my Masters in special education, I spent 5 years as an LD Resource teacher before returning to the regular classroom. I have taught third grade and a multi-age primary class as well.
