Mrs. Claus's Christmas Cookie Disaster is an activity that incorporates sequencing, reading directions, math, and writing. Here is the situation: Mrs. Claus has misplaced her recipe for Santa's favorite Christmas cookies! The reindeer have been trying to help her and have been able to offer information on the details of the recipe. However, no one reindeer can provide all of the information needed.
Students will:
-read the directions and put them in order (individual and large sequence cards provided)
-use math skills to double the recipe (sheet included)
-write a letter to Mrs. Claus with the ingredients and the steps correctly ordered (plan sheets and final copy stationery provided)
-Answer Key included
To top off this activity, we make these cookies as a class and enjoy them! I think you will find this LOADS of fun!

Hi Nicole,
One of my students is a Jehova Witness. Could this activity be easily modified to fit his needs? Thanks!
I am not all that familiar with the Jehovah Witness beliefs, but I don't think they celebrate Christmas at all. This activity is not really "Christmas" related as far as religion, but the reindeer have mixed up a recipe and have to write Ms. Claus with the correct steps. If the reindeer isn't a problem, then he could easily write to someone else, other than Mrs. Claus. I am sorry that I am not much help. I just have never been in that situation before.
I am starting my tenth year of teaching. During that time I have taught 4th and 5th grades. I am currently teaching 4th grade. I absolutely love teaching! I have the best job in the world!
