Multiplication Facts Practice, Data Collection, and Line Graph Mastery: Motivational Tool and Unit Project
This project is designed to provide students with a motivational tool to conquer and master their multiplication math facts. Students race against themselves and the clock with a daily timed practice of a multiplication table covering factors 1-12.
Students are taught to check their own answers, record their results in a data table over an extended period of time, convert units from minutes:seconds to total seconds, create and practice using flash cards, and design a line graph to visually depict their progress.
After completion of this unit, students will have a solid foundation for complex multiplication with multiple digit factors, long division, fractions, etc. They will feel good about their progress and enjoy the increased self-esteem and mathematical competency with their basic facts.
This is a great morning work activity to jump start your day, a quick math warm up, or a beginning of the year math unit. This activity can be used with any age student who needs to freshen up on their basic skills. It is also a great tool for homeschoolers and tutors.
