PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

A useful handout for your students to use as a reference for their rhythm work where the beat value is equal to a quarter note.

It is particularly good to use in conjunction with your aural work i.e. rhythm dictations.

This is the one resource that I am STILL using with all of my music classes after 25 plus years of teaching.

This chart used North American terminology. It is also available using British terminology. Click the following link: RHYHTM CHART using British Terminology

Not useful for me because the spoken rhythm syllables are not standard for Kodaly methodology. I don't think the rhythm for rests should be spoken, therefore maybe note with inside voice. Rhythmic value column somewhat useful, except these values are only true when the quarter note gets the beat and there should be some statement stating so.
On  April 12, 2014Aussie Music Teacher answered:
Hello Leslie

I am sorry to hear that this chart didn't suit your needs.

As music teachers we all know and accept that there are different ways to teach rhythm. The Kodaly method is not the only way. This is a FREE resource and you can see from the thumbnail the syllables used. If it didn't suit your way of teaching rhythm there was no need for you to download it and then give it a poor rating.

I believe that when teaching rhythm to beginners, the beat value should be nothing else BUT the quarter note and so considered this information to be assumed. However, I have taken that part of your feedback on board and added a clarifying statement to the description.

I have used this method in my classroom for nearly thirty years and all my students are excellent rhythm readers.

Very well organized, great tool! It will be very helpful with the composition project I want to do with my 6th graders (and save me from constantly reminding them that YES, dotted halves are different than halves!) :)

Thank you for providing this valuable additional to my music students' music binders. Also, I print out the British edition so my students will learn more about the world of music theory.
