This is one of my favorites! Each student (or pair of students) gets a packet and a random assortment of 12 animal crackers. They need to then design a zoo full of biome and needs appropriate exhibits for these animals. The project requires research, creativity, and many other skills. The students create the zoo exhibits using markers/crayons on a large white sheet of paper and then glue in the animal crackers into each exhibit!
The packet is 18 pages long and takes the students step by step through this amazingly fun project!

I have taught for 16 years in a large, urban, public school district (I have taught in three different schools) and I LOVE it! I taught self-contained, multi-age gifted class for past seven years. Prior to this assignment, I taught regular ed 4th and 5th grades. I am now in an at-risk school teaching 5th grade! I am so lucky to have such great students, past and present!
