This is a great first day (or first week) of school activity for your students. It allows each student to think of his/her goals for the school year, decorate his/her own personal banner, and each student has his/her picture taken. I have used this for many years, and my students absolutely love it!
I have included the template that I use for my classroom banners. You can customize it to your school mascot by changing the clipart on the side where the students list their goals. Also included is a note to the teacher about how I use this in my classroom and sample pictures of my classroom banners.
On one side of the banner, the students get to write their names and decorate it however they choose. Once their pictures are printed, the students will glue their faces onto the side of the banner with their names. On the other side of the banner the students list their goals for the school year as well as how they will accomplish their goals.
Throughout the school year, it serves as a reminder to the students what they wanted to accomplish for that school year. It is a visual, original student work, and part of the classroom decor. At the end of the year, each student takes his/her banner home.
The students love it so much, they talk about it to the younger students. Each year when I meet my new students, the first thing they want to know is when they are going to make their banners.
Aww...thank you! My kids love this activity, and they love to see their banners hanging in the classroom. I hope you are gearing up for a great school year!
Thank you! I am so glad you like it! My kids absolutely love doing it each year. There are so many things you can do with it, but my students like to see their banners all year, so I hang them and take them down at the end of each school year. It is always fun to see how much they have changed since the beginning of the year when they come down, too.
