This is a simple color coded guide for third and fourth graders to use when writing a paragraph. It begins with a topic sentence, then a reason or detail sentence, and finally a sentence that explains the reason or detail.
There are also reminders of transition words and words that would be good to use at a closing.
This format can be used for various assignments (fact/opinion, compare/contract, cause effect) and once students have mastered the format, the length of the writing assignments can gradually be lengthened without to much stress.
This format can also be used to teach main idea and supporting details.
I actually copies these off, glue them to construction paper and then run them through the laminator. They will last for years.
