Looking for something quick & easy that your students can work on as you are welcoming other students on the first day of school? Look no further! This activity requires the students to draw a picture, write a sentence, and solve two simple math problems. This will keep them occupied until you are able to get started with your whole-class plans and it will give you a pretty good idea of how well each student can work independently. You can modify the document to fit the needs of your students. Enjoy!

I have been teaching for 17 years at the same school in Mandeville, Louisiana. I taught 1st grade for six years and have taught 2nd grade for eleven years.
