The Glass Castle is compelling, popular literature. My high school students loved reading about this CNN reporter’s crazy childhood, and yours will too. The materials I have created include 30 objective questions (in order) with answer Key. These test questions can easily be converted into a reading guide for students who need additional support. The two essay questions are lots of fun to discuss. They are formatted for discussion, partner or group essay writing, or solo activity. A graphic organizer helps to break down the actions and motives of each parent. My document is compatible with 2003 and 2007 Word. It is easily modified to meet the needs of your students. Students will have a great time defending their ideas. My classes loved using these materials and I hope yours will too!
Great test, and thanks for including an answer key! That helps with time constraints.

I am hoping you can help me. What grade do you use The Glass Castle with? I was hoping to incorporate this novel into my 9th grade curriculum, but the principal said no. I have a chance to defend my choice, so any feedback regarding student reaction/ engagement would be very helpful.

HI Asa, I teach all LD students, so I chose this high interest book with short chapters and appropriate readability for my senior class, summer reading. The kids loved debating which parent is better... or less awful. As the author moves from chapter to chapter, no carry-over is needed, since each chapter can stand alone. The book has no inappropriate material in it, except perhaps for a moment when one of her uncles attempts to grope her. It is not graphic and is over quickly, as the young girl runs away. All the reasons it would be good for my LD seniors should fit on-level ninth grade. One year, I had my kids go onto the author's website and ask her follow up questions, which she answered.
