This is very much a quiz to check if students read Wright's Native Son. The quiz contains twenty multiple-choice items (with answers) and one one-page written response where students choose an episode and then demonstrate how the episode develops a specific character. An alternate second section is included where the task is to explain how Wright uses symbol(s) to enhance the work. Space for the written section is intentionally limited in an effort to force students to think their ideas through before putting pen to paper. This quiz was develop for IB English but can be used for other levels. A few of the multiple-choice items are tricky, though.

Does your Native Son test come with an answer key?
Yes, it does. The preview document does not show answers but the multiple-choice section of the full quiz has the letter of the correct answer beside each blank. Thanks for asking! I edited the description to make this clear.
Twenty years in three states and four countries other than the U.S. I started out teaching ESL/EFL, but the last ten years have seen me specialize in IB English A1 HL. I have taught nearly every grade level and competency at the high school level.
