This is a great "into" activity for the novel "To Kill A Mockingbird". I model the activity before assigning it to them. I create a map of my childhood neighborhood, complete with icons of funny anecdotes that I share with the students (on the overhead projector). Then, I give them the chance to reflect on their own childhood memories with this assignment. They love to share their crazy stories with eachother!
