I learned of the "Exposicion de la Moda" from a colleague of mine. It's simple, VERY active, and the students LOVED every second of it! I've attached a few pictures to the download so you can see for yourself how much fun they had in class.

This activity is for any unit that deals with clothing, fashion, shopping, etc. I did this with my Spanish I and II students, and it was a roaring success!

This lesson plan is for ANY FOREIGN LANGUAGE. As long as you have newspapers, masking tape and one class period, you're good to go.

If you find success with this project, let me know. I'd be excited to hear what you think.

Per request in feedback, I have now added a rubric to the download.

Have FUN! :)

This lesson was a huge hit with two of my adult education ESL classes. The photos are worth a thousand words; even beginning students immediately understood what they were supposed to do. I preceded it with a vocabulary-exploration lesson, giving the students photos from celebrity and fashion magazines, and asking them to label the articles of clothing in the pictures with sticky notes. For my more advanced (upper-beginner/low-intermediate) class, I adjusted the rubric by requiring students to appoint a "writer" and "announcer" in each group (in addition to a "designer" and "model"). The writer had to write a detailed description of the outfit, down to the lapels, buttons, pockets and neckline, which the announcer read as the model moved down the runway. Students used picture dictionaries as they planned to boost their vocabularies. Each team's work was judged by 1) number of clothing items or details mentioned; 2) quality of the written narration; 3) cooperation (this is from the original lesson plan).

This is a simple idea that becomes a tremendously engaging lesson and can be adjusted for various language levels.

Adding a grading rubric would make this more helpful. I would pay more if it were included.

I did this with my 8th grade students on a Friday. They had tons of fun with the activity! I took some pictures and answered questions while the students were preparing for the fashion show. Once they were ready to present their model I had a student take the pictures and another student did the videotaping. The activity pretty much ran itself. Thank you for this great idea!

It's a simple plan in English. The lesson can be done with any foreign language; it's easily adaptable. The download also has a few photos so you can see how much fun the kids had with the activity!
