In this activity, students will apply Newton's Laws of Motion to a video clip from Toy Story 2.
Day 1: For part one, students will record, on their student worksheets, the definitions of each of Newton's Laws of Motion. Then they will use those definitions as they watch a 10 minute video clip. As they watch the video clip they will find one example for each law.
Day 2: For part two, students will choose their best example from part one and complete the analysis portion of the activity.
Concepts covered in this activity: Newton's Laws of Motion, Inertia, Acceleration, Action- Reaction, Speed, Balanced and Unbalanced Forces, Gravity
Included in the file:
Newton Meets Buzz and Woody Student Worksheet- 2 pages
Newton Meets Buzz and Woody Grading Rubric- 1 page
Newton Meets Buzz and Woody Teacher Notes- 1 page
This activity will require the movie Toy Story 2. Clips can also be accessed on YouTube. Segments of the movie or clips from YouTube to view are listed in the teacher notes.
My students and I loved this activity! I was especially excited to have them write an essay to explain their understanding of the law they chose to illustrate.

Overall a good idea. I was a little unsure about what the students were being asked to do on the illustration.

Great activity to reinforce Newton's laws of motion. My 7th graders were very jealous that 8th grade got to do this assignment. The first 4 minutes and 48 seconds of the movie and a few other parts are perfect for this.
Love this! Great way to reinforce the laws of motion!

My students absolutely loved this! I found 2 clips on you tube and they went perfect with this. Newton's Laws were much easier to visualize using this as a lesson. Thank you!
