If you want a different type of memoir to teach or have your students read independently, Anne Morrow Lindbergh's memoir of the trip she and Charles Lindbergh took to Canada, Alaska, Japan and China in 1931 is short, east to read, entertaining, and a great example of poetic prose. Students learn about the cultures, time period, geography, and aviation. Included is a 100 pt. test (multiple choice, matching, and a few short answers), answer key, study guide, and a project that includes various activities including research, creating writing (poetry), and style analysis (literary devices including similes, metaphors, personification, and lots of allusions!). The project covers English skills as well as map skills and history elements--great for a humanities course.

For the past 25 years I have taught everything from junior high (7th and 8th grade) English, including gifted ed, to university English and education, to adult education in a vocational rehabilitation center, to high school English, with an emphasis on AP Language and AP Literature. I currently teach at a STEM school that has an aviation and aerospace theme. I also have nearly ten years of online teaching experience.
